Second and last week of ISUM has begun! Today we learnt about wikipedia and more about wikis. We actually made a wiki by ourselves! You can check it here http://lili2008.pbwiki.com/
Wiki seems to be a fun thing to do. And if it is fun, children at school will definatly like it.
For me it means one more tool for teaching. Creating a document together, raises responsibility and gives space for self-evaluationa, as well as evaluation of others, and that is teaching to be responsible of what you are doing as well.
When creating a wiki, for example, as a class project, you must use different sources of information. During my work at school, I have faced some problems with using preferences. Children very often forget to put them. Wiki, however, is not a simple printed school paper, which will end up somewhere. Wiki will be seen for everybody, which makes preferences to be a very important part of whole document.
One more nice thing about wikis, if you are creating it together with others, you have limited space for your part of work. Therefore you must learn to extract the most important information, you must do an evaluation not just for information itself, but also for the sources you are using.
As a conclusion for todays post, wiki is all about responsibility. Making your part of work on time, information you are putting in, sources you are using and simply a good result in the end of project - you are responsible for that all!!!

Hi there,
I was really enjoying reading your blog and your excellent thoughts! I hope I will read much more on your wiki page those days!
And now…
Wikipedia is too large to really cover with a blanket!
And just as I don’t say "look in the encyclopedia" as a blanket response for information, I can’t say "don’t use Wikipedia", nor can I state I’d never link to an article in a resource guide. But, as a part of showing what resources are available and teaching effective search skills, Wikipedia tends to present more problems than many other resources. Sometimes because of range of quality of editors, sometimes because of interest level in updating and correcting (both over and under).
It would be just as naive to launch Wikipedia as the always first choice as it would be to launch Google, Yahoo, or to point to a pathfinder or resource guide every time. Given choice of topic, situation, sophistication and skills of user, information need, end product, there is always going to be a range of resources available to choose from.
What I really like in Wikipedia is that it is collaborative tool and space. You can always find a different ways of using it in your classroom as future teacher! Any ideas of using it in your classroom?
WOW thats was a long comment!
Talk to you soon,
Vasko
HI!
WHY YOUR TITLE IS SO PESSIMISTIC? YOU DON'T LIKE IT HERE?
My idea about Wikipedia is that its the easyest way of getting information. I`m not saying: "Don`t use it!" I`m saying: "Use several sources of information, if you want to make a realy good research!" Since Wikipedia usually covers only the general information, using only that, its not a research. One more thing about researching, is finding a different sources, evaluating them, comparing and extracting the most objective information from all of them. Thats why I always say to use Wikipedia as a start for research, but not as a main source. And ofcourse, the fact, that everybody can add text there, makes it not that safe source, no matter how optimistic we are...
Hay!I really like your blog.It looks nice. You have very good thinking about everything that we've learn here and I glad for that.I realy enjoed reading everything that you have wrote.
